Saudi Arabia bans early marriage, set 18yrs as minimum age requirement

Saudi Arabian Emirates through its Ministry of Justice has imposed restrictions of early marriage, it now set 118-years as minimum age requirements before getting marriage, Saudi Gazette reports.


The Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council and the Minister of Justice, Sheikh Dr. Walid Al-Samaani issued a report which sanctions restrictions on early marriage.

The report explained that all marriage requests are to be forwarded before specified court to ensure compliance with the Child Protection Law


The law says: “Before conducting marriage contracts one has to make sure that marrying a person under the age of 18 will not harm him or her and achieve their best interests, male or female.”

The restrictions are inline with paragraph  16/3 of the Executive Regulations of the Child Protection Law
